Health clubs provide individuals with accessible resources for maintaining and improving overall health and fitness. With so many people reliant on the club’s resources, it’s imperative for health clubs to maintain their equipment properly. The more machines you have working, the greater the available resources for club members.

By taking the proper care measures, you can ensure your guests can access all the equipment they need to meet their fitness and health goals. Proper equipment maintenance offers many other benefits, including enhanced longevity, fewer repair fees, and safer workout experiences. Guarantee your club members valuable access to crucial health and fitness resources with our top tips for maintaining your health club equipment.

1. Regular Cleaning

Keeping your health club clean goes beyond simply maintaining a hygienic and healthy space. Regularly cleaning your fitness equipment can extend your equipment’s life span and maximize performance. Dirt and grime can wreak havoc on fitness equipment.

Small debris can penetrate the machine’s chains, gears, and bearings, causing friction that results in decreased performance, increased noise, and eventual equipment failure. Dirt and sweat can cause corrosion and rust on metal parts, significantly reducing their lifespan. Dust and dirt can clog up the ventilation systems in electronic fitness equipment, leading to overheating and potential breakdown. Maintaining cleanliness is not just about aesthetics or hygiene; it’s vital to preserving your gym equipment’s functionality and longevity.

Maximize your equipment cleaning by:

 • Wiping down equipment using a non-abrasive cleaning solution
 • Dusting machines at the start of the day
 • Brushing off large debris from surfaces

2. Frequent Inspections

Inspections are a crucial part of preventative maintenance. Frequently reviewing your equipment allows you to detect, identify, and resolve minor issues before they escalate. Preventive maintenance is essential for many reasons, but above all, it reduces risk for health club guests. Look for signs of wear and tear, such as frayed cables, loose bolts, unusual noises, or any changes in machine performance.

3. Professional Servicing

While routine self-inspection is important, professional servicing can identify deeper problems that may not be visible to the untrained eye. Professional servicing entails a comprehensive checkup and maintenance of your gym equipment by certified technicians. These experts possess the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to accurately diagnose and repair any issues affecting the functionality of your machines. Professional servicing guarantees expert and precise insight and repairs, significantly enhancing your gym equipment’s longevity.

Schedule regular inspections with a certified gym equipment technician who can provide thorough checkups and tune-up services.

4. Proper Usage

Proper usage of gym equipment is a fundamental maintenance protocol that can significantly increase the longevity of your machines. Improper equipment usage is more likely to cause unnecessary stress or strain on the machines, leading to faster wear and tear. Misuse can cause damage to delicate components, impact machine performance, and even pose safety risks to users.

Ensuring your members understand and adhere to correct usage guidelines guarantees that you maintain the equipment’s maximum functionality and enhance member safety and satisfaction.

Guarantee proper equipment usage by implementing the strategies below:

Provide Clear Instructions

Placing clear, concise instructions near each piece of equipment can guide users on using the machines correctly. These instructions can include diagrams or images for better understanding.

Offer Orientation Sessions

Owners can conduct regular orientation sessions for new members. Orientation sessions can include demonstrations on how to use gym equipment properly, highlighting the correct form and posture to avoid injuries and unnecessary equipment stress.

Appoint Qualified Trainers

Having qualified fitness trainers on the gym floor can be a beneficial resource. Trainers can offer immediate assistance, correct improper usage, and provide personalized guidance to members based on their fitness levels and goals.

Use of Signages

Strategically placed signs reminding members to use equipment responsibly can serve as a constant reminder for proper usage. Include reminders about resetting weights, not dropping equipment, and wiping down machines after use.

5. Equipment Lubrication

Like any machine with moving parts, gym equipment needs proper lubrication for smooth operation. Many exercise machines experience friction during operation, leading to wear and tear over time. Friction can also reduce a machine’s efficiency and performance, potentially disrupting your gym operations and member workouts.

Regular lubrication mitigates such issues by reducing friction between the moving parts, maintaining the smooth operation of the machines and ultimately prolonging their lifespan. Treadmill decks, weight stack guide rods, and gears are important places to lubricate as they endure some of the most friction.

6. Equipment Rotation

Equipment rotation—the practice of periodically changing or adjusting the use of certain equipment availability—can help extend equipment life. Switching out your equipment balances the wear and tear among machines by ensuring no single piece of equipment sees excessive use. This strategy allows some machines to have “rest” periods, reducing the constant strain on popular equipment.

Implementing an effective equipment rotation strategy requires careful planning and execution. Below are some best practices to consider:

Assess Usage Patterns

Start by monitoring the usage patterns in your health club. Identify which machines guests use most frequently and which are less popular.

Set a Rotation Schedule

Based on your assessment, create a rotation schedule. This rotation could be daily, weekly, or monthly, depending on your gym’s usage patterns. Clearly communicate the schedule to your members to avoid confusion.

Rotate Based on Equipment Type

Consider rotating equipment based on their type. Alternate cardio machines with strength training equipment. Rotating based on equipment type balances the wear and tear while encouraging members to try different workouts.

Rearrange Equipment Layout

Physically moving equipment around your gym can also be an effective way to rotate. A new layout gives your health club a fresh look and exposes members who typically stay in one corner of the gym to different machines.

7. Invest in Technology-Advanced Equipment

Investing in high-quality, durable, and advanced equipment saves you money in the long run. Higher-quality machines with advanced design mechanisms often last longer. Manufacturers design these pieces of equipment with fortified materials, efficient mechanisms, and special ergonomic features that reduce the force of wear and tear on their structure.

When starting a gym, it is essential that you create an environment that is comfortable and welcoming for members.

From keeping things organized to being transparent in membership agreements, here are several ways you can make your gym a place where people want to go to work out.

Keep It Clean

Nothing turns off faster than a dirty gym. Not only does an unkempt gym look bad, but it can host a wide variety of germs and bacteria that can make people sick, such as rhinovirus and staph infections.

Be sure that staff is extra vigilant in cleaning areas like the locker room, sanitizing all towels, and advising members to wear flip flops in the locker room. Also, keep sanitizing wipes available for members to use to wipe down equipment before and after they use it. It’s a good idea to make wiping down equipment a gym rule.

Keep It Organized

When people come to your gym, they expect to be able to easily find the piece of equipment they are searching for. Be sure to keep your commercial fitness equipment categorized by type in a manner that is easy for members to find.

For example, have specific sections dedicated to cardio, strength, stretching, and functional equipment. Your members will thank you for the extra room.

Be sure there is also enough room in between equipment for members to easily move about. No one likes exercising in a cramped gym where they are constantly bump into someone else.

Keep It Fun

If members feel like they’re having fun while exercising, they are more likely to feel comfortable working out at your gym and come back for more. Just remember to keep the workouts challenging! That’s the only way members will see results.

Keep It Friendly

From the moment members walk into your gym, be it for the first time or the 20th, they should feel welcomed. Ensure every member of your staff regardless of position is friendly, helpful, and available.

If a member has a question or concern, your staff must be able to answer in a friendly, helpful manner. If they don’t know the answer, they should find someone who does.

Keep It Secure

No one wants to go to a gym and worry that their personal belongings like their wallet and phone are in danger of being stolen. That is why you should provide security lockers with their own unique key for members to use to store their belongings. With this basic security measure, members will feel better about coming to your gym.

If your gym is open 24 hours, it is essential that you restrict access after a certain time to 24 hour members only for their safety and the safety of your staff. Providing 24 hour members with a keycard will allow them access as well as log who is in the gym at any given time. Everyone should also check out at the front desk when they leave.

Keep It Transparent

No one wants to sign up for a gym membership trial only to discover that the gym made unauthorized charges or didn’t tell them about certain terms and conditions.

When signing up new members, be transparent and make sure they understand what their membership entails. If they have questions, answer honestly. It will keep you and your gym reputable and out of legal trouble.

A part of TRUE’s HIT Cardio Series, the TRUE Traverse Lateral Trainer gives users the most comprehensive workout in any gym or health facility. Unique programming features such as the Cardio 360™ Workout encourages the activation of more muscle groups than a typical lateral trainer.

With a variety of console options, the TRUE Traverse Lateral Trainer also has the capability to be self-generating, saving facilities energy without the restriction of placement on the floor. Complete with side-to-side motion, users get a workout that sculpts the core and lower body with smooth motions for a better workout in less time.

Exercise Goals

XL1000 Stair Stepper Machine

This Lateral Intervals Cardio workout on TRUE’s Traverse Lateral Trainer is truly for anyone with any goal and any body type.

If your goal is to lose weight, this exercise is perfect because of its low impact. It will eliminate harsh compression on the knees, ankles, and hips caused by excess weight pressure. This compression often holds a lot of people back from exercising because their joints become sore and while also increasing the risk of serious injury.

If you are already at your goal weight, cardio is necessary to maintain that weight or become more defined by losing that last layer of adipose tissue. This workout has short bouts of high intensity followed by steady states of recovery, assuring that there is no muscle wasting; only heart rate variation allowing maximum fat loss without losing muscle.

Tips Before The Workout

You typically want to repeat this workout 2-3 times to complete a full cardio circuit.

 • For a Beginner: Repeat this routine 1-2 times. You will continue seeing results for a longer period of time doing this particular cardio workout.
 • For an Intermediate User: Repeat 3-5 times, remembering to change up the routine to continue seeing results.
 • For an Advanced User: Repeat 3-5+ and increase resistance to avoid hitting a fitness plateau.

To scale back the intensity of this workout, you can cut the overall time frames of each segment in half. Build on that by then lengthening the time of the segments to complete the whole workout. Once this is mastered, the repetition and resistance can be increased as well.

Proper Forms To Remember For This Workout

When exercising, remember to ensure it is comfortable enough for you to push the pedals, while keeping it difficult enough to create resistance. Keep your form correct and move with purpose. For example, keep your core tight and avoid pushing with your knees.

The Workout

A workout table titled TRUE Workout: Traverse Lateral Trainer Cardio Workout lists exercises, intensity, rest, and trainer tips for warm-up, leg pumps, squats, and cool down, with descriptions for each section.

Final Thoughts

Any machine that goes beyond unilateral movement needs attention to detail on body positioning to reduce the harmful angle on hinge joints. For example, TRUE’s Traverse has an inward and outward motion.

It’s important to understand that these directions come from the hips, not the knees. Pain in the knees can arise if you are just shifting weight carelessly from one leg to the other in-motion. To correct this immediately, increase the resistance so there is more purposeful effort into each movement.

By not correcting this motion, joints will still be grinding and moving with directions they aren’t made to repetitively endure. Keep hips in tight with knees over ankles and look straight at the middle of the console; do not bounce from side-to-side when gliding. This will ensure even weight distribution for better recruitment of glutes, abductors, adductors, and hamstrings.

In addition to TRUE’s lines of industry-leading cardio equipment, 66体育 - TRUE Fitness让运动更简单_官方网站 66体育 66体育 is dedicated to providing a well-rounded fitness experience for all users. With TRUE’s Functional Trainer, multiple muscle groups become toned and strengthened through a variety of customizable workouts on one machine.

This isolated shoulder workout was designed by TRUE’s own personal trainers. Here, all of your functional trainer questions will be answered by TRUE Trainer, Jamie.

What is This Workout Meant to Accomplish?A dual adjustable cable machine with two weight stacks, adjustable pulleys, and attached handles, designed for strength training exercises in a gym setting.

“[Functional trainers are designed to help] build muscle in your shoulders. The rep range (amount of reps per motion) is good for building size in your shoulder muscle. A 10-12 rep range is good for building size, 15-18 [reps] is usually meant more for building endurance”

Who Should be Doing This Workout?

“All individuals [can do this functional trainer workout]; beginner and elite. [This workout] can be used for any level of fitness, but be sure to adjust the weight appropriately to accommodate a set of 12. At least two reps should be extremely challenging, like a 9 or a 10 on a 10 point scale.”

How Often Should Someone Train?

“Do the workout about two times a week about three days apart. As you get stronger, simply add more weight or more reps.”

What Should This Workout be Paired With?

“Pair shoulder workout with chest workouts of about the same level. As a fully rounded workout, shoulders and core or shoulders and cardio would be a good pair. This video is not a full shoulder workout. Shoulder workouts should usually be about 8 movements of three sets of 12. Combining those movements [in the video] with three sets of 12 in a chest workout would also be a good pairing.”

Trainer Tips:

“Beware elevating [your] shoulders close to your ears. Your shoulders should be level during this workout. As always, try to have a source of carbs before and after each strength session. For those at expert level, be sure to have a source of protein for your workout.”

]]>
When owning a gym, there are many different risks that you must be concerned about in order to maintain high levels of health and safety for both your members and your employees. One of these health risks you must be aware of and prevent is the transmission of staph infections.

What is a Staph Infection?A person holds their hand under an automatic dispenser mounted on a wall as liquid sanitizer is dispensed onto their palm.

Staph, or Staphylococcus, is a bacterial infection that can cause a host of diseases like toxic shock syndrome (TSS). Though some staph infections can be small and clear up relatively quickly, some infections can become worse or even fatal if the bacteria enters your:

 • Bloodstream
 • Joints
 • Bones
 • Lungs
 • Heart

Infection can be passed through an open wound (even a small cut) and produce boils or abscess that are typically tender, red, and swollen. To treat a staph infection, a doctor will usually prescribe antibiotics and may need to drain the infected areas.

Educate Gym Staff About Staph Infections & Prevention

Alert your staff of the risks of staph infection. Be sure that each member of your team is doing the following in order to maintain the cleanest environment in your gym:

 • Make sure the equipment is clean. While gym members may not directly come into contact with one another, staph can still live on commercial fitness equipment. Make sure your staff regularly sanitizes the equipment in-between uses
 • Wash towels after use. If you provide towels to members to use, be sure they dispose of it in a designated laundry basket for gym staff to wash in between uses.
 • Be hygienic. Encourage employees to wash their hands and cover wounds to prevent infection.

Maintaining a strict, regular cleaning routine will not only make your gym look better, but create a safe environment.

How Gym Members can Prevent Staph Infections

Some gym members may not know what staph infection is or how to prevent it. By handing out flyers or posting reminders around your gym, your members can help decrease the risk of infection. Be sure to remind members of the following:

 • Wash your hands. Wash hands for at least 30 seconds and dry with a disposable paper towel while using another towel to turn off the faucet.
 • Keep wounds covered.Keep cuts clean and covered with sterile, dry bandages until they heal.
 • Keep personal items personal.Avoid sharing personal items such as towels, clothing and athletic equipment.
 • Wear flip-flops in the shower. If you provide showers, encourage members to wear flip-flops to prevent possible infection.
 • Wipe down equipment. Like staff, instruct members to maintain a safe exercising environment by wiping down equipment with sanitizing wipes after each use.

By using these tips, your staff and members will not only have a cleaner environment, but a healthier one as well.
